Dear Mr Bakoyannis,
Dear Mayor of Athens,
I recently visited Athens and booked a local tour by bike. I noticed the total lack of any infrastructure, which made me feel insecure and uncomfortable. The City of Athens is beautiful and it is a pity not to have a basic cycling network for all cyclists to use in the center of the city (both tourists and locals). The city centre is overwhelmed with cars, taxis, vans, and the image is not of a modern European city but – sorry to say that – of a chaotic developing city. I firmly believe that the expansion of sustainable mobility means (cycling, walking, public transport) and the discouraging of private car use is the only way forward for Athens, and big cities in general. Athens deserves better.
All the best
